Dr. Joseph Townley, MD

Joseph W. Townley, M.D., is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist who has served the Omaha community in private practice since 1993. An Omaha native from a family of health professionals, Dr. Townley is a graduate of Creighton Prep, Creighton University, and Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at the Mayo Clinic and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Dr. Townley provides medical and surgical eye care for patients of all ages, with special expertise in cataract surgery. He was among the first in the area to perform “no stitch, no shot” micro-incision cataract surgery and offer multifocal lens implants. His practice also includes laser vision correction (LASIK), glaucoma surgery, and eyelid surgery, with a focus on adopting the latest technologies and techniques to ensure the highest quality outcomes.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Townley is committed to education and service. He volunteers at Creighton University Medical Center and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, teaching medical students and residents. He also provides volunteer eye care in Nebraska and abroad.

He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Nebraska Medical Association, Metro Omaha Medical Society, and the Omaha Eye Society.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Townley enjoys spending time with his wife, Karla, and their five children.
