About Dr. Michael Rolfsen Jr
Dr. Michael Rolfsen, M.D. is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with expertise in cataract surgery, refractive cataract surgery, glaucoma care, and routine eye exams. A Louisiana native, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and mathematics from the University of Notre Dame, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He went on to receive his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.
He completed his medical internship at Tulane University and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2020, after several years in group practice, Dr. Rolfsen opened Waco Ophthalmology, a solo practice dedicated to exceptional patient care. His commitment to excellence has earned him Wacoan Magazine’s “Best Ophthalmologist” title in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Rolfsen enjoys life with his wife, Maria, and their five children. He is active in the St. Louis Catholic Church and enjoys reading, golfing, exercising, and cheering for Notre Dame football.

The WONDERFUL Dr Rolfsen & his amazing Staff went beyond my expectations and calmed my anxiety over having eye surgery! I’ve been looking for someone to perform my cataract surgeries in both eyes but could not find the right doctor I was comfortable with & who I trusted with my eyesight until i visited Waco Ophthalmology. He & each of his Staff Members explained every detail, were easy to talk to and they truly care about each of their Patients. Not one of my questions (and I had lots) went unanswered. Had both eyes done (with the MultiFocal Lens) and the day after surgery, I can read this WITHOUT my glasses/contact lens! Without a doubt Dr Michael Rolfsen & his Staff are the VERY BEST!
