About Dr. Surendra Basti
Dr. Basti began his ophthalmology career in India, graduating from medical school in Mangalore in 1988 and practicing for five years at the prestigious L V Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad. After immigrating to the United States in 1998, he completed an internship and ophthalmology residency at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, followed by a fellowship in refractive, corneal, and cataract surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. In 2004, he joined the full-time faculty at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he continues to lead in both clinical care and surgical education.
A pioneer in laser vision correction, Dr. Basti has performed refractive surgeries since 1996 and has authored over 85 peer-reviewed articles. His work with technologies like the IntraLase® femtosecond laser and Wavefront-guided LASIK has earned him recognition and awards from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. In addition to his clinical excellence, he has taught thousands of practicing surgeons worldwide and has received both the Achievement and Senior Achievement Awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Basti is also featured in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare for his ongoing contributions to the field.

great doctor
Very good doctor!
What a terrible experience. It took a full hour to see this provider after I arrived for my appointment, and it was absolutely not worth it. This doctor was completely uninterested in helping me, didn't let me get a word in and gave me zero opportunity to participate in decision making about my care. I felt completely dismissed and wish I had not wasted my time on this appointment. Unless you like doctors with a god complex, I recommend you avoid this provider.
I took my 89 year old mother to see him today. When she asked him to, please, tell her, again, what the regime is for the drops he responded “I already told you. I am not repeating myself. This is crazy! My time is precious”. My mother said, “please Dr., I am 89 years old and I need to hear once more” and he said “you have a younger person here with you. She will tell you. I will have my girl print the instructions for you. PS we waited 1.45 hours to meet him for, literally, 5 minutes. Absolutely disguisting and he should be ashamed of himself. I would NEVER recommend him no matter how smart he may be. He is a cold and arrogant man without any heart or compassion for the elderly.
The visit itself was fine, but even after explaining that I cannot afford to get a new prescription for my eyesight (went there for another reason) I still got a "go get your eyes checked" comment on discharge. Cool. I have thousands of dollars worth of tests coming up. Are you going to pay for that or what? Not all of us have a doctor's salary.
Saw him today he’s fabulous very attentive and asked me if I Had any other questions, took his time did not feel rushed at all .
