I saw Dr. Asota for evaluation of a corneal condition, and the experience was extremely upsetting. During the appointment, she noted that I also had a cataract in my other eye. When I asked about options for managing it in the future, she told me that because I am blind, the only treatment she would ever consider for me would be complete eye enucleation, and that she would not consider cataract surgery or other treatments. This was shocking to hear. I was not asking for vision restoration, only whether the cataract could be addressed if it eventually caused discomfort or other symptoms. I left the appointment feeling devalued and dismissed, as if my eyes and my wellbeing were viewed as “not worth” treating. It was a deeply dehumanizing experience. I later sought a second opinion from a cataract specialist, who told me the opposite: of course he would remove the cataract if and when it became symptomatic, with the understanding that it may not improve my vision. His approach was respectful, compassionate, and centered on my comfort and autonomy. That contrast made me realize how inappropriate and harmful the first interaction had been. I’m leaving this review so that other blind or disabled patients are aware that they may not receive the compassion or consideration they deserve here. Disabled people still deserve quality care, options, and respect. My experience with Dr. Asota did not reflect that.

The staff at Mesa branch was great as the wait was long. They helped make my husband and I comfortable with the experience. I loved Dr Asota. She is confident, caring and professional and quite brilliant in her practice. She was the only specialty ophthalmologist that could figure out what was going on with my eyes. I had been to see two before her and they did not even come close to her diagnosis. I was suffering for at least a year before I met this special Doctor. Thank you Dr. Asota.

Dr. Ijeoma had excellent bed-side manner, she was very knowledgeable and educated me on the steps I would go through and what I was to expect before my cataract surgery with lens implant. As for the actual surgery, I had the best experience ever! She hand walked me through the surgery experience and I felt no pain or side effects during or after. Would highly recommend her for your eye surgery needs. To put it in words, she's simply the best! 10 stars our of 5.
