About Dr. James McHale
Dr. James A. McHale serves as the Director of Cataract Surgery at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates and has been part of the practice since 2004. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, as the youngest of five children, Dr. McHale has dedicated nearly two decades to the privilege and responsibility of restoring sight as an eye surgeon.
He earned undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology, along with a minor in Neuroscience, from Miami University. He then attended medical school and completed his ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University, where he served as President of the Medical School Student Council. While at OSU, he also founded, managed, and played on the medical school soccer team.
Dr. McHale is married to his college sweetheart, Jennifer, whom he credits as “the glue that holds his family together.” They have three children—Kaitlyn, James, and Will—and share a love for soccer, hiking, skiing, and the mountains. The family’s Boston terrier, Max, is a beloved companion who enjoys tug-of-war, naps, and simply being a good boy.

I love Dr.Mchale, HE is awesome. He takes the time to listen and really cares about His patients. HE always a great listener. He is still AWESOME!!!! He is still awesome. Although I don't like that my vision insurance is not accepted by his office. But I still love him!

I gave 5 stars because the staff was great, especially Dr McHale's assistant, Ruth. Ruth was so kind and compassionate when the numbing eye drops burned my eyes. Also, she helped me work through the 2nd eye drops that dilate eyes because that drop always made me very nauseous. Ruth used an alternative drop that didnt make me ill. She gets a gold star from me! The bad part is the waiting room experience. I arrived at the time requested. Then waited almost an hour to be called to the exam room. All the other patients were polite, but unhappy about their long wait too. To add to that, you allow use of cell phones in the waiting area. There was one man that spoke loudly, on speaker phone, during the entire wait. He was speaking in a different language, so it was impossible to block him out and concentrate on my book. Everyone tried to ignore him, but took turns glaring at him. He was very rude to a fault. Luckily, the rest of your patients had good manners and didnt confront him, but I kept hoping a staff member would ask him to step into the hall for the duration of his conversation. I hope you will institute a no cell phone policy in the waiting area. Please.
Everyone there is so nice, polite and professional. They care for the patients. Clean environment. Dr. McHale is the best! I need cataracts removed. He is the only one I trust with my vision.
Overall I will say excellent service.
I waited in two different waiting rooms for an hour and a half. Very frustrating! I explained to the doctor that I have runny eyes that always feel as though something is in them. He had no solutions for my problems?
