Dr. James McHale, MD

Dr. James A. McHale serves as the Director of Cataract Surgery at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates and has been part of the practice since 2004. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, as the youngest of five children, Dr. McHale has dedicated nearly two decades to the privilege and responsibility of restoring sight as an eye surgeon.

He earned undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology, along with a minor in Neuroscience, from Miami University. He then attended medical school and completed his ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University, where he served as President of the Medical School Student Council. While at OSU, he also founded, managed, and played on the medical school soccer team.

Dr. McHale is married to his college sweetheart, Jennifer, whom he credits as “the glue that holds his family together.” They have three children—Kaitlyn, James, and Will—and share a love for soccer, hiking, skiing, and the mountains. The family’s Boston terrier, Max, is a beloved companion who enjoys tug-of-war, naps, and simply being a good boy.
