About Dr. John Josephson
Dr. Josephson, M.D., is a Board-Certified, Fellowship-Trained ophthalmologist with extensive expertise in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. He completed an advanced fellowship at the University of California San Diego, complemented by a high-volume LASER fellowship at the Gordon Weiss & Schanzlin Laser Vision Center. His training also includes an internship and residency at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Academic Center, where he developed strong surgical and clinical skills. Earlier, he earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School with a Distinction in Research, after completing a Clinical Research Training Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He received his undergraduate degree in cell biology and neuroscience from Rutgers University, graduating with High Honors as a Henry Rutgers Research Scholar.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Josephson is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology with the Georgetown University Residency Program, where he regularly trains young surgeons. Dedicated to service, he also participates in medical mission trips to provide eye care to underserved populations. He is known not only for his innovative surgical approach but also for his compassionate connection with patients. Beyond medicine, Dr. Josephson enjoys basketball, tennis, and spending time with his wife Nancy, their three daughters, and their church community.

The front desk staff and the gentleman who conducted the testing (Elberth) were courteous, professional, and attentive throughout my visit. I previously underwent LASIK surgery with another physician. After evaluating my situation, Dr. Josephson recommended performing corrective surgery on only one eye. To help determine whether this approach would improve my vision, he provided me with a single contact lens to trial at home. Unfortunately, I did not experience improved vision and was unable to drive home without my glasses. However, I did find the contact lens itself to be very comfortable. As a former LASIK patient, I have found it difficult to locate contact lenses that fit comfortably, so this was particularly noteworthy to me. Following my visit, I contacted the office multiple times, leaving voicemails and sending emails to inquire about the brand of the contact lens I had been given. I did not receive any response. Eventually, I received a call from a staff member named Leidy, who contacted me to ask whether I was ready to schedule the surgery, rather than to return my inquiry regarding the contact lenses. When I explained that correcting one eye had not improved my vision and again asked about the brand of the contact lens, she informed me that she did not know the information and was unable to locate it. She reiterated that I could call back if I wished to schedule the surgery. I am very disappointed by the lack of follow-up and communication regarding my simple request.

My mom had a very severe cataract that not every ophthalmologist could treat. Dr. Josephson performed the cataract surgery on her last year, and the results were outstanding. My mom mentioned that she has never been able to see this clearly before and is extremely pleased with the outcome. Thank you very much, Dr. Josephson.
Very difficult to talk to someone. I waited for 30 minutes for my turn then got hung up by the receptionist when he picked up. I had to call back and waited again for 25 minutes. My mom needs to reschedule and I made 4 requests for call back but never received a call back. We decided to go to another doctor. Even to cancel appointment takes 30 minutes to get through. Too much time wasted and unbelievable service!

If you need to get an eye surgery you can get it anywhere . But if you need a professional surgery with care and kindness from all the staff at the center starting from Dr John who clearly explained to you your conditions and what need to be done to the nurses , the finance staff who will do whatever needed to help you with your payment to the nurse who is holding your hands during the surgery to the phone call of Dr John the night of your surgery to make sure that you are ok . If you need to get my experience you just need to go to Dr John Josephson and they will take excellent care of you . Although the surgeon has completed his job but his billing department has not. Husband has cataract surgery on one eye with Dr Josephson on January 31. On 1/31, when checking into Reston Surgical Center, we were charged for the artificial lens, because we were told the artificial lens was provided by the Surgical Center. Wait!!! Then we were double-billed for the lens, because we have already paid more than $3k, which was claimed to be the price of the lens, to the surgeon’s office months before the surgery took place. Again, my husband only has surgery on one eye. He only needs one artificial lens. After the EOB from Aetna were provided, we know our claim has been processed, and we have overpaid more than $3000 to the doc office. So, I have contacted Dr Josephson’s billing department @ numerous times and still have trouble to get our overpaid $$ money back. The billing clerk is unable to offer any legitimate or justifiable explanation at why we can’t be refunded. I think we can either file a complaint to Aetna our insurance company or dispute the over-paid with our credit card company. Or as a final result, consult with an attorney. Or to VA Department of Health Professions. The star is for Dr John Josephson billing department.
