About Dr. Nathaniel J. Ruttig
Dr. Nathaniel Ruttig is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist and former U.S. Navy flight surgeon who brings a unique blend of military discipline and compassionate care to his practice. An Ohio native, he completed a six-year combined BS/MD program through Youngstown State University and Northeast Ohio Medical University, graduating in 2000.
Following medical school, Dr. Ruttig served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy, completing his internal medicine internship at Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Virginia, and aviation medicine training at NAS Pensacola, Florida. He concluded his military service at Training Air Wing Four in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he supported aviators as the flight surgeon for the VT-35 Stingrays.
He completed his ophthalmology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and is a diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. After five years in private practice, Dr. Ruttig founded Eye M.D. of Niceville. He is fluent in Spanish, allowing him to better serve the local Hispanic community.

Scheduling a new patient appt was a breeze. Everyone was courteous, professional, and communication was wonderful. Dr Ruttig took the time to explain my exam results and his recommendations. I would definitely recommend Eye MD.
Dr. Ruttig and his staff gave my with and me excellent service. Friendly, caring, and efficient. We both had Refractive Lens Exchanges. They ensured the exact prescription was made by measuring our vision twice. The surgery was quick and painless, recovery without incident ... and we both see perfectly now! We highly recommend their services for RLE surgery.
Not happy after going to Dr. Ruttig for over 15 years. Went for annual and had a tech. Saw Dr. for 4 minutes. Told him about my eye was irritated and inflamed. He prescribed a medication at a compound Pharmacy. I waited over a week and still no prescription.Called Ruttig’s office again and spoke to tech who told ME to call the pharmacy. Called the pharmacy to find out medication discontinued. Called back Dr. Ruttigs office and was told to talk to tech who I initially saw. She did nothing to help. Several days later still no new prescription. Since moved on to a new Doctor.
He did my cataract surgery and my eyelid surgery, he's the best he also did my best friend's cataract surgery

During 2019 tried to push me into cataract surgery bc I may have had insurance that could cover.
So thankful for Dr. Nate and his friendly staff for getting me in so quickly. I had an eye emergency, and they were able to work me in to get me treated without me having to go to the emergency room. I can’t say enough about how thankful I am! 😊
I am not a patient but my mother was. In fall of 2022, she informed Dr. Ruttig that she was seeing double…. He informed her then that her eyes were just “tired”… Not correct, sir - she needed a prism in her lenses. A very simple test would have confirmed it, had the good doctor bothered to administer it. Wouldn’t grace my business to this type of “professional”. My mother has since taken her business elsewhere and now sees perfectly.
