After earning his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, he completed an internship at both Georgetown University Hospital and INOVA Fairfax Hospital. He went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at UAB Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, and furthered his expertise through a prestigious fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins — one of the top-ranked ophthalmology programs in the nation.
At Wilmer, Dr. Cross received subspecialty training in cornea, anterior segment surgery, and external disease. His clinical and research interests include Fuchs dystrophy, modern endothelial keratoplasty techniques, and the management of ocular surface disease. Dr. Cross performed my bilateral cataract surgery in October 2025 and I couldn't be more thankful for such a great outcome! I can now read, drive and watch TV without glasses for the first time in 35 years and that is amazing!!!
Had some set backs with my surgery but Dr Cross took care of all my issues. Very thorough and caring to me.
Dr. Cross successfully did a cornea transplant on my husband. He has a wonderful bedside manner and is kind and friendly. We think he is a great doctor. We highly recommend him.
My Optomologist, Dr Crosswell, is the consummate professional he goes about his business in and out of my eye checking for changes and reporting every thing as he sees it. I haven’t had a problem with wait time or any other inconveniences. Satisfied customer.
My father, who has dementia, has been a patient of Dr. Cross for approximately 8 to 10 years. My father was seen by Dr. Cross in August of 2022, and at that time Dr. Cross referred him to both a neurological ophthalmologist and a glaucoma specialist for assessment. It was understood by my mother that Dr. Cross was to meet with them after the referral appointments for follow up and future planning. Over the course of 5 months, my mother left multiple messages in an attempt to find out about a return appointment with Dr. Cross. She receive one response from someone in the office who stated my father was not a patient! My mother then explained the above situation and was told this would be discussed with Dr. Cross and they would let my mother know something soon. As of now, at least a month has gone by and no response has been received as promised. As their daughter, I am absolutely disgusted that my two elderly parents, one with dementia, have been treated so poorly and overlooked by what is supposed to be a professional medical office!

Dr. Cross is wonderful! He did corneal surgery on my right eye and I will have him do the same for my left eye. He and his staff are informative, very professional, friendly, patient, and extremely helpful. I couldn't have asked for a better eye dr. to address my particular needs.
I had PRK surgery done by Dr. Cross this past month. Him and his team were absolutely amazing and I couldn't recommend them enough. I felt that my concerns were heard and responded to with care and thought. If you are considering getting PRK or Lasik done (or really any other eye needs) I highly suggest that you schedule an appointment with him.
